Maybe it's that other meaning of "domestic"? As in, this block of cheese will sit and stay on command. The Swiss are pretty tame, aren't they?
Actually, you're thinking of DomesticATED Swiss cheese. That stuff will bring in the paper and fetch you your slippers. It's also good on ham sandwiches.
I was actually thinking of a Swiss domestic -- the kind that wears an apron, cleans the house and yodels.
Just how we should call American Cheese, 'cheese.' We are already in America!
